That bright Ducati red screams “look at me” and the lines are aggressive and no-nonsense

Depending on who you talk to, a Ferrari F1 car produces north of 700 hp and weighs 1,411 pounds for a 2:1 or better power-to-weight ratio. By contrast, the Ducati 1199 Panigale S delivers 195 hp and weighs 415 pounds for a comparable 2.1:1 ratio. So, if you want to argue that Ducati's all-new flagship delivers F1 performance for the street, you'd be right.

Aprilia and Ducati each introduced new large-displacement motorcycles — the Tuono V4 and 1199 Panigale, respectively — that boast impressive sporting credentials.

It absolutely ruled on the billiard table-smooth Yas Marina circuit on its launch but what's it like to live with day to day, on UK roads? Greasy, leaf-covered UK roads.
My neighbours could be forgiven for thinking there's a tank at the end of the road, shelling the house next door, but no, it's just me firing up Ducati's incredible-sounding 1199 Panigale S.
It's a Ducati superbike so of course it's noisy and blatanly fast but, like all the best Ducatis; it's an event.

What's it like to live with Ducati's latest road rocket, the Panigale, for a week's ordinary use?
We British are a funny lot when it comes to buying motorcycles. We'll love a new sports bike for lapping a foreign racetrack faster than its rivals, in the hands of someone we've never met, then buy it in order to whizz about as best we can on British roads.
There's nothing wrong with that if it gives us pleasure, and bikes do just that through their image, looks, sound and brand values as well as the how they feel and perform (while the ace in the pack is that even the most ordinary motorcycle is still a motorcycle and, by default, enjoyable).
However, with Ducati's Panigale superbike performing as well in showrooms as it has done in track tests, there's plenty of interest in how it copes with a trip to the supermarket, heavy traffic, a weekend away or carrying a passenger. So I borrowed one to subject it to a week of intense ordinariness.

2012 Ducati 1199 Panigale S first ride..
Barrelling down the straight at Cadwell Park, this race track is way too narrow for the missile of a motorcycle I'm riding. It oozes power from every nut and bolt, with a snarl so fierce from the exhaust - it's racebike loud - it won't pass any of the noise limits from the other UK tracks. Ducati's Panigale is insane! Ducati is renowned for launching state of the art motorcycles. Its 916 is still hailed as one of the most iconic and groundbreakingsuperbikes of all time. Well for 2012 it's done it again with its stunning 1199 Panigale packed with technology .

Our main man in the Sales Department gets down with the show stopping 1199 Panigale at New Orleans Motorsports park, and tells you all about the Panigale from the way it rides to the way you sit on it.
It's been nearly six months since I've been on a bike, let alone on a track- so to have an opportunity to ride the new Ducati 1199 Panigale is exciting say the least but daunting at the same time (in a good way). It was completely serendipitous that Portland had a couple days of perfect weather that allowed me to take a ride and 'knock off the dust'. I wasn't able to go to a track, but I was able to take a semi-spirited ride through Oregon's fabled back roads on the current king of the sport bike / liter bike / super bike class, the BMW S1000RR. I will admit the bike is good, but I am more than anxious to get out and try to ring a little more than a little performance out of the bike that will undoubtedly be the new top of the heap (no pressure of course).
Before I get into details of the bike, I have to talk about the first class treatment by Ducati North America in New Orleans. A new product launch is a massive undertaking, but as usual, DNA came through in fine style by bringing dealer principals, general managers and select sales staff to the new track in the Big Easy (NOLA Motorsports Park) to ride the Panigale and treated all of us to a first class experience, including on track riding with Ducati Ride Experience (DRE) instructors from Italy. The track itself, with its new buildings and covered hot pit lane, will host the AMA Super bike series in October, so it was an honor and privilege to be among the first people to turn a wheel at this new facility....For more click the headline above

Somebody recently asked me if I wanted an iPad. I had to think – ‘Why not?’ The answer I said, was that having bought the largest phone I could and the smallest laptop I could, I didn’t have an iPad-shaped hole in my life.
But the deeper question I have been grappling with – especially since buying the Ducati Multistrada 1200 last year – was: Is there a sportsbike-shaped hole in my life?...more here: http://pure-triumph.blogspot.com/2012/04/ducati-panigale-1199-review-first-road.html?spref=fb

2012-ducati-1199-panigale-s-track-review.jpg Ducat 1199 Panigale S Yas Marina Launch I can see 150 mph on the speedometer and I'm still accelerating hard with more straight to go.
I can see 150 mph on the speedometer and I'm still accelerating hard with more straight to go. The front of my Suomy Apex Capirex crash helmet starts to push towards my face in its debut above 155 mph.
I can feel the air pressure building and my left ear bows to the pressure created by the wind. This isn't because of any altitude change; this is because of raw Panigale power. When I stop after this session my ear pops.
Following my first laps around the Yas Marina in Abu Dhabi during the launch of the 2012 Ducati 1199 Panigale S, I realize it's in essence nothing less than a three year old full on World superbike....more
