Dripping in magnesium, carbon fibre and titanium, and boasting the highest power-to-weight ratio of any production bike, the 200bhp, 155kg 1199 Superleggera is the most exclusive Ducati ever built.
Only 500 will be made and they're all sold already, but we managed to grab one to ride at Mugello, the bike's spiritual home.

Good review. Because of the access to the raw parts for explanation purposes, I think this is going to be about a definitive look at this bike you will see.

The revolutionary technology found in the Monoscocca frame and Superquadro engine, 148 HP delivered with incredible lightness and unprecedented agility, the unmistakable design, Ducati Quick Shift and ABS fitted as standard. This all ensures that the 899 Panigale is just the bike to give a Ducati Superbike adrenalin rush, both on the track and on the road. /

Unbelievable performance and technological excellence proclaim this the new queen of the Superbike family. Born of the world of competitive racing, the 1199 Panigale R is an exclusive and treasured interpretation of man's passion for the racetrack: titanium piston rods, carbon fibre bodywork, Ducati Performance racing exhaust and livery inspired by the Ducati Corse. Perfection was never so close.

Having recently tested Suzuki's latest GSX-R, Yamaha's YZF-R1 and even Kawasaki's ZX10R last year, it's amazing how well the latest liter bikes are performing these days. Even so, of the models Soup's been invited to test, and (as Soup suspects) the others we haven't, each continue following an almost identical development path, all built to, or within a price point. Their respective manufactures subtly refine or, otherwise, improve their existing platforms. But, in all current cases, honestly, little more than mechanical continuations of the same ongoing design are the rule. And, with the exception of traction control making a welcomed appearance on this year's R1 and Yamaha joining Ducati, Kawasaki, BMW, Aprilia and MV with the fitment of ever-advancing electronic packages, yes, the level of improvement increases, however, the investment level for change, not so much. In other words, for the most part, today's innovation for new models remains virtually status quo. It also seems that, at least from a financial perspective, a complete retooling for the major four UJM's would be a risky endeavor these days, at best, and an option few would entertain....More here

MCN Senior Road Tester Adam Child will compete in this year's lightweight TT race aboard a Kawasaki ER-6 with help from road racing expert
Ryan Farquar.
Child - or Chad as he's known at MCN - has been professionally testing bikes for over 10 years, seven of which at MCN, and has already
had a taste of road racing at the North West 200, Oliver's Mount and Paeroa New Zealand.
He will be riding for Ken Urwin Motorcycles near Doncaster who are currently building the bike with specialist help from Ryan and
Maxton suspension.
Here, Chad laps the mountain course onboard a brand new Ducati 1199 Panigale.

It was only a matter of time, folks. As soon as Audi finalized its purchase of the Ducati brand, we knew to expect a slew of comparison tests pitting the German automaker's finest wares against the two-wheeled exotica rolling out of Italy's best-known motorcycle maker.
The scribes from Germany's Auto Bild have indeed taken up the challenge. But what machinery to choose? Naturally, the mind first turns to the R8 supercar and its Lamborghini-derived V10 engine, but, in reality, Audi officials have conceded to us that its 360-horsepower TT RS is actually quicker around most race tracks. So, the all-wheel-drive TT RS Plus it is.
Holding the mantle for Ducati is none other than the 1199 Panigale – an easy choice, as this is the marque's premier superbike for 2012. Sure, there was a replica MotoGP machine a few years back called the Desmosedici RR, but that bike is sold out and the Panigale is likely faster in the hands of all but the most talented riders anyway.
So, who wins? You'll have to scroll down and watch the video to find out, but suffice it to say that it wasn't even close.

Nous avons pris le guidon de la 1199 Panigale pour un premier essai sur circuit à Abu Dhabi sur le tracé de Yas Marina. (We took the handlebars of the Panigale 1199 for a first down on the track in Abu Dhabi on Yas Marina track.)
This video is in French but it's so well done it's worth a watch. Here's what Ducati.net member Dan. who sent us the link said "Rather than a simple bit of editor commentary and some on-board, like most efforts, it is much better film making. Documentary in style, it includes great beauty shots plus some really nice cut-away model stuff that no other coverage seems to have included. A superior production.
Unfortunately it is in French and I don't understand the language. But, I'm pretty sure they are saying they had a good time and loved the
Panigale;-) If you haven't already seen it - check it out."
Thanks Dan!
