With DVT, Ducati’s 1198 Testastretta V-twin makes excellent torque and power.
When I interviewed CEO Claudio Domenicali about product plans for Ducati after the company was purchased by Audi, he surprised me by confirming that development work would intensify on the Testastretta family of eight-valve desmo engines. Back then, all the attention of the motorcycling world was focused on the new 1199, and Domenicali, a positive man, confirmed there was a lot more performance potential in that engine. He said there could be a substantial improvement in the quality of combustion throughout the rev range via better control of the turbulence in the intake charge at lower rpm.

Ducati's 2014 Multistrada 1200 S Granturismo is fast, nimble and can haul plenty of luggage.
The Multistrada 1200 S Granturismo is Ducati's top of the line motorcycle for adventure touring.
Equipped with huge side cases (73-liter capacity each) and a 48-liter top case with passenger backrest, this 1198 cc, 150 hp beast is made to haul butt while hauling close to a week's worth of luggage.
I recently had the opportunity to test the Multistrada with a week-long ride topping 3,000 miles. I rode from just outside Baltimore to Key West, Fla., then back again with a few detours, including Fort Myers Beach, Fla., Savannah, Ga. and New Bern, N.C.
