Weighing in at just 157kg with over 270bhp on tap, MotoGP machines are the finest motorcycles the human race can produce, capable of mind-boggling lap times, 63-degree lean angles and top speeds well in excess of 200mph. But while they might be the most capable bikes in the world, what are they actually like to ride?
End-of-season tests for the world motorcycle press used to be an annual occurrence after the final round of the season at Valencia, but the global have-a-go sessions were brought to a halt way back in 2007 following a run of expensive crashes.
Nine years later and MCN’s guest road tester and BT Sport MotoGP presenter Neil Hodgson is about to leave pit lane on the very Ducati Desmosedici GP16 on which Andrea
Iannone secured his first victory since 2010 at the Red Bull Ring this summer.
It’s taken close to a decade for any manufacturer to let a civilian out on their priceless machine and even then it’s not a ‘normal’ rider, it’s Hodgson, a man that still has a place in Ducati’s heart having won the World Superbike championship for them back in 2003.
After taking a few minutes to calm down, Hodgson spoke to MCN about the once-in-a-lifetime experience. This is what he said…

Andrea Iannone reckons he’d have been ‘stupid’ to quit Ducati just when the Bologna factory is embarking on a radical re-design of its struggling Desmosedici machine.
The Italian has been promoted to Ducati’s official factory squad for this season after Cal Crutchlow’s shock U-turn to quit and join LCR Honda, just days after committing his future to a Desmosedici last summer.
Had Crutchlow stayed with Ducati, Iannone would have been left in the satellite Pramac squad for a third successive season, though he would have had full factory support having penned a new two-year deal.
Iannone spoke to Suzuki and LCR Honda about a 2015 deal, but he said his dream was always to remain with Ducati.
The 25-year-old impressed in his second season on finicky Desmosedici and scored six top six top finishes, with a best of fifth in Germany, Brno and Misano after an injury ravaged rookie season in 2013.
Iannone, who also claimed five front row starts last season, told MCN: “I thought I was...

Andrea Iannone says he is relishing the challenge of trying to seize the number one spot at Ducati from fellow Italian Andrea Dovizioso in 2015.
Iannone will join his compatriot in Ducati’s official factory squad next season after Cal Crutchlow switched to LCR Honda.
Briton Crutchlow initially pledged to honour the second year of his Desmosedici deal before landing a golden chance to replacing Stefan Bradl on a factory RC213V.

With Marc Marquez back to winning ways at Silverstone, the Misano round of MotoGP (or to give it its full name, the Gran Premio di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini) is the next venue to host the Marquez MotoGP record demolition steamroller. At Misano, Marquez can equal Mick Doohan's record of twelve wins in a single season, clearing the way for him to break that record at a following round.
What are the odds of him actually achieving that? Misano is a circuit where he has had a great deal of success, having won in 125s and both the Moto2 races he contested here. A mistake during last year's MotoGP race meant he lost ground on the leaders, though he recovered to finish in fourth. Going by his past record, Marquez is once again favorite to win.
