With the new-wave custom scene continually evolving and diversifying, it’s becoming progressively more difficult to classify custom motorcycles. Even the mere mention of the term “café racer” is enough to send purists into a frenzy these days. It gets even more complicated when the donors are ’90s-model Ducatis—an emerging trend that we’re loving.
Who better to blur the lines than Clay Rathburn of Atom Bomb Custom Motorcycles? Clay’s a master craftsman whose work we’ve featured multiple times, and who seems to be able to turn his hand to any style of bike. His latest creation is this breathtaking Ducati 900SS-based café-racer-cum-streetfighter.

You may have noticed that we’re big fans of Ducati cafe racers, so when we came across this 900ss from our friends, Redmax Speedshop down in the South of England, we had to get her up on the bike shed asap for your viewing pleasure.
This donor bike is late 80s Ducati, which is perhaps not the Bologna factory’s finest era in many respects, as they were churning out parts-bin specials, but the 900ss has turned out to be a great donor for some of the nicest customs around. Not only do they look great, but they also handle, are very light, and with a few simple tweaks they are reliable and fast.

This breath-taking Ducati stormed onto the interweb a few days ago, appearing just about everywhere all at once, and while we prefer to be as unique as we can with out build features, we just had to include this bike in our Bike Shed archive for reference and inspiration for future builds, at the very least.

For some time now I have considered the use of carbon fibre on many custom motorcycles as being rather clichéd. Ducati were one of the manufacturers who jumped on the carbon fibre band wagon a few years back by adding a multitude of bolt on carbon parts to their accessories range. Currently they have around 140 carbon accessories available on their site most of which have a dress up purpose rather than functional. Luckily UK workshop Made in Metal had grander plans than simply looking good when they started their latest carbon covered Ducati 900SS custom.

Some time in the foreseeable future the advent of an apocalypse due to a zombie outbreak, nuclear war or perhaps even global warming, will cause the total breakdown of society as we know it. When this disaster happens the majority of the survivors will more than likely become desert roaming vigilantes fighting to the death for the next tank of fuel or can of dog food. Never fear though, not everyone will be out to dismember you or throw you in a cage with a giant gladiator just for laughs. There is one who stands against all that is evil and is prepared to aid those in need during the end of times and it's been made by Icon. This is Icon's custom Ducati Super Sport 900 they call "The Operator" and it's here to help stitch your arms back on and set you on your wasteland way.
