The Ducati Superbike Team made an extremely positive start to its ‘home’ race weekend at the Misano World Circuit today; thanks to a very fast final lap at the session’s end, Davide Giugliano projected himself into overall first place, with teammate Chaz Davies concluding the first day of action in fourth position.

"I am very sorry.Carlos is a great guy and a fair sportsman.” says Melandri...
MARCO MELANDRI has apologised to Carlos Checa after colliding with the reigning champion and forcing him out of the second race at Misano.
Both the factory BMW and Althea Ducati riders were charging through the pack after starting down the grid, following lowly Superpole performances, when the Italian attempted a pass and knocked Checa down on lap four.
Whereas the Spaniard was unable to return to the track, Melandri stayed upright to continue and eventually finish the race in fourth position.
"On lap 4 I was behind Carlos. I tried to pass him in turn four where I felt strong in braking," explained Melandri. "We were side by side, so I expected him to see me, but when we started to flick into the corner he seemed not to realise that I was next to him as he touched my leg with his shoulder and he lost the front.

On the weekend where the Misano World Circuit was formally renamed in honour of Marco Simoncelli, the World Superbike championship gave us the kind of racing of which Simoncelli would be proud; close, aggressive and with just a hint of over-exuberance.
Rain threw qualifying into disarray and made for a mixed-up grid formation, with top riders missing out on front-row places. Temperatures played potential havoc with tyre choice as riders were made to give serious consideration to tyre choices and strategy. Poor qualifying from the front-running ex-MotoGP contingent also gave the first laps of both Superbike races a sense of urgency not normally seen, and hot tempers would push the envelope of risk-taking.

Carlos Checa starts the seventh round of the World Superbike Championship from the bottom half of the field after a 'miscommunication' error.
Carlos Checa says a 'miscommunication' was the reason for his failure to qualify higher than 16th for the seventh round of the 2012 eni World Superbike Championship at Misano, an event he was expected to start at the front.
The Spaniard came into Superpole having set the pace in FP2 but while he demonstrated pace in the closing stages of the 'wet' session, he coasted into the pit lane, in turn aborting a fast lap.
As it happens, Checa's pit-board to said 'box' prompting him to return to the pit lane, only to discover there had been an error. By the time Checa had returned to the circuit, he didn't have enough time to turn in a late flying lap....More here
